SURFACE PREPARATION

The surface must be dry and clean, without traces of dust, oil, grease, rust and soap. On painted surfaces, it is recommended to clean with T.S.P. (trisodium phosphate) in order to eliminate any contaminant that might harm the adhesion or the hardening of the product. Glossy surfaces must be sanded and dusted before painting.

                 Mildew & New Surfaces

On new or treated wood having been exposed to inclement weather, it is highly recommended to neutralise all mildew, visible or not, in order to avoid peeling. Use a mix of 3 parts water for 1 part bleach, let this work for 20 minutes, then rinse and allow the wood to dry for at least 24 hours before painting. Once the surface is dry, sand the horizontal surface entirely with a n°80 sand paper in order to open the wood fibers and enhance the adhesion. Use a n°120 sand paper for vertical surfaces. Should a pressure wash be required, it must be done prior to sanding.

                 Painted or Stained Wood

In order to maximise the durability of the product and to obtain a semi-transparent effect, it is imperative to bring the wood back to its original condition by sanding or by stripping it, using the appropriate products.

Maintenance coat: An annual visual evaluation is recommended. Verify that the wood surface is not impaired or damaged. If the surface is intact and only the gloss level has changed, use the Woodmate semi-transparent 1070 series in order to bring shine back to your surface. Should you detect traces of flaking and cracking, lightly sand the surface and apply 2 coats of Woodmate semi-transparent 1070 series in order to restore its original appearance. By proceeding this way, you will prolong the life length of your Woodmate stain.

APPLICATION STEPS TO FOLLOW

For optimal results, MF Paints recommend that the semi-transparent Woodmate protective coating be applied in the following order:

 1st coat   –   Tinted Woodmate
 2nd coat  –   Tinted Woodmate
 3rd coat   –   Clear Woodmate

Should the desired colour be obtained after the first coat, the clear Woodmate must be applied for the last two coats.

APPLICATION

Apply at temperatures between 10°C and 30°C. Do not apply when surface is exposed to direct sunlight. The wood must not surpass a 20% humidity level. Wait 8 hours after a mild rainfall and 24 hours after a heavy rainfall. Use a bristle brush. Generously apply the coating using a back and forth movement along the fibers of the wood. Only apply on the width of 2-3 wood planks, afterwards apply on length of planks in order to avoid demarcation. For a maximum protection, make sure to apply product on all 6 facades of the wood. Stir the product during application in order to keep the mixture homogeneous. For a spray application, dilute with a maximum of 10% water. There should not be rain for the following 48 hours in order to ensure a good performance of the stain.
